On Good Manufacturing, Storage & Laboratory Practices.
A
National seminar on Good Manufacturing, Storage & Laboratory
Practices was conducted at Lahore on 23 & 24 December, 2002.
The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Health with collaboration
of WHO. Mr. Mohammad Nasir Khan, Federal Minister for Health was
the chief guest in the concluding ceremony. Scientists and experts
from all over the country and Canada participated in the seminar.
The workshop laid special emphasis on validation processes, stability,
documentation, Good Storage & Good Laboratory Practices. Other
workshops on GMP, GSP & GLP are proposed to be conducted in
Peshawar and Karachi with in the next few months.
The 2nd National two day seminar on GMP, GLP and GSP was held on
7th and 8th Feb, 2003 at the National Institute of Health, Islamabad
by Ministry of Health with collaboration of WHO. Almost 250 distinguished
delegates from the government and non- governmental organizations,
academia and pharmaceutical industry participated in the workshop.
This seminar and the exhibition arranged by the pharma industry
was inaugurated by Mr. Sheikh Rashid Ahmed Federal Minister for
Information and Media Development.
The Third two day seminar was organized in Peshawar at Peshawar
University.
The fourth seminar was organized in Quetta and that was one day
seminar.
The last of this series was organized in Karachi.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTSOF DRUGWING IN MINISTRY
OF HEALTH
DEVELOPMENT OF PHARMA SECTOR
Development of Pharma sector has been substantial, production
and quality control facilities have been, strengthened, growth
rates about 10%, share value of many of the MNCs' has increased.
Production and quality control facilities have been expanded /
strengthened, by 200 multinational and national units.
DRUGS AVAILABILITY
Alternate brands of 20 life saving drugs which were constantly
in short supply were made available through other manufacturers
. Premiere medical institutions like PIMS, JPMC, AFIC The Agha
Khan University Hospital are using them.
SUPPORT FOR DIALYSIS
About 450 poor patients have been provided free of cost
Dialysis, (cost Rs. 10 million per month).
WORKSHOPS HELD
10 Workshops on Good Manufacturing Practices/Good Clinical
Practices, Good Prescribing Practices, Good Storage Practices
were conducted at Karachi, Lahore Peshawar, Quetta and Islamabad
last year. About. 2000 doctors, pharmacists, scientists and technicians
actively participated in these workshops.
PUBLICATIONS
Proceedings of international workshop held on Total Quality Management
of Drugs at Karachi in 1999 were published for the benefit of
Pharma industry and other related health professions.
Pakistan Drug Information Bulletin, 'Pakistan Drug Update' has
been published and is being circulated to 20000 doctors and other
health professionals.
Three issues of an official drug information bulletin “Pakistan
Drugs Updates” were published and circulated to twenty thousand
health care professionals including doctors, pharmacists and nurses.
STRENGTHENING OF THE DRUGS CONTROL ORGANIZATION AND THE
CENTRAL DRUGS LABORATORY
During Past few years vacancies for 36 technical officers and
133 ancillary staff were created as part of strengthening the
drug regulatory system which includes Drug Control Organization
and central drug laboratories.
NATIONAL ESSENTIAL DRUG LIST OF PAKISTAN
The National Essential Drug List of Pakistan, a key element of
Essential Drug Concepts, was published in 1994 and revised twice
since then.
EXPORT OF DRUGS
Despite unfavorable environment during past few years the export
of drugs remained steady showing the acceptability of the quality
of drugs produced by the Pakistan.
